HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Texas has executed a man who killed his former next-door neighbor in her San Antonio home and stabbed her 10-year-old son in the chest as the child tried to defend the woman.
Thirty-eight-year-old Luiz Salazar was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday.
He was condemned for the 1997 fatal stabbing of 28-year-old Martha Sanchez after entering her home through a window. Evidence at the trial also suggested that he tried to rape the woman before the stabbing.
Police say the woman's son, Erick, was woken up by her screams and that he was stabbed in the chest when he tried to help Sanchez.
Salazar was the 12th Texas inmate executed this year and the second of two to die on consecutive nights this week. SOURCE
