10 Homicides Mark Violent Week In Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- With several shootings, a fatal stabbing, a carjacking and a home invasion all in just five days, it seems Jacksonville is a city under siege, overrun by armed criminals who operate without regard for life or law.

The most recent example was a home invasion early Friday morning that police said involved a 15-year-old boy armed with a sawed-off shotgun.

Police said the teen and two others forced their way into a Southside home on Beach Boulevard and stole thousands of dollars in computers and electronics before stealing a car and ramming an officer's vehicle.

The officer opened fire and hit the 15-year-old, who remains in the hospital, in the week's second police-involved shooting and just the latest incident in what the mayor and sheriff called a war.

The carnage began on Sunday and continued all week. In the last five days, there have been 10 homicides. Officers have been injured, victims killed and two violent suspects have been shot by police.
