- The Clay County Sheriff's Office arrested a one-time child care worker this week on charges he used a broomstick to hit a 13-year-old boy's head at a group home for disabled adolescents.
- The State Attorney's Office, meanwhile, is investigating whether to charge another worker who waited more than nine hours to report the incident.
- Dontah Jordan, 20, of Orange Park, was charged with felony child abuse. He remained in jail Thursday in lieu of $100,000 bail.
- Jordan was employed by May South, a nonprofit organization that works with people who have autism and other developmental disabilities.
- A co-worker told police that about 10:30 p.m. Sept. 24, he heard the boy scream and went into the kitchen, where he said he saw Jordan repeatedly hit the boy on top of the head, according to a Sheriff's Office report.
- The co-worker, Troy Jackson, did not report the incident to a supervisor until 8 the following morning. The Sheriff's Office responded at 10 a.m. to a report of child abuse, according to records.
- The teenager was treated and released at Wolfson Children's Hospital.
