An all to common story today.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Two employees of a group home in Gainesville were arrested on charges they abused disabled residents.
Harold Martin and Henrietta Agyei, staff members at Elevations Group Home, were taken into custody by Gainesville police and law enforcement officers with the attorney general's Medicaid fraud control unit.
Authorities began to investigate when a witness reported seeing Martin grab a disabled resident by the neck and throw the resident into a wall. Another witness reported seeing Agyei batter a disabled adult with a belt.
According to the arrest affidavit, the witness reported seeing Martin, 51, throw a client head-first into the wall of one of the facility's classroom after accusing the client of stealing someone's food. The force left a hole in the wall that was immediately repaired by another staff member.
Records show the client did not receive medical attention and the incident was not reported to the Department of Children and Family.
According to the arrest affidavit on Agyei, the client showed a witness bruises on his back and the top of his buttocks that appeared to be left by a beating with a belt. When asked, the client said Agyei had beaten him because he had wet his pants.
